The Department of Communication Studies is excited to announce Dariela Rodriguez as their new Sports Communication faculty member beginning in the Fall Semester of 2012.
Dariela received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Communications and Public Relations from the University of Texas at San Antonio in 2000, and she completed her Masters of Art degree in Communication at the University of Texas at San Antonio, as well, in 2008. Dariela is now working on completing her Ph.D. in Communication at the University of Oklahoma.
Currently, Dariela is teaching at the University of Texas at San Antonio in TRiO Programs. Through this program, she has taught all levels of English and some communication courses through the summer months. On top of her teaching experience, Dariela has also presented her research at numerous conferences around the country and has had her work published in numerous academic journals.
Dariela is very happy to be joining the Department of Communication Studies and the University as a whole: “I have had my eye on Ashland and the changes going on in the department for a couple of years and getting to opportunity to have a role in the growth that is planned is exciting.” Through her classes, Dariela believes that she can bring a different perspective to sports communication because of her background: “My main area of study is interpersonal communication and how that is addressed in sports; so I think I can help the students expand their understanding of how communication can be studied and practiced in the realm of sports.”
Congratulations and welcome aboard Professor Rodriguez!
